Romans 8:2, ‘For the Spirit's law of life in Messiah Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death.’ (ISV)
In the wisdom of Yahweh, He set into motion ‘empirical constants’ which are laws that hold all things in the universe in there place. Everything inside of our time and space continuum, whether visible or invisible are bound by a set of laws.
There are 18 basic physical laws of the universe and many other non-fundamental laws. In this lesson we will explore a little known spiritual law that holds together; the identity of man, His ability to effectively interact and commune with Yahweh, and access the blessing.
The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ states:
- All of mankind, from Adam to the yet unborn are collectively identified in covenant union with the Last Adam, who is Christ our Lord. (I Corinthians 15:45). *Here we need to understand that the first Adam who fell from grace in the Garden of Eden was a prototype of the Christ. Saint Paul describes this in Romans5:14, ‘"Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come." Depending on the Bible translation, Adam is called a “type” (NASB, NET) or “pattern” (NIV) or “figure” (KJV) of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- The inheritance of Christ is imputed, transferred and credited to all humanity (Jew, Gentile and the most wicked of heathen), without any pre-qualification on man’s part. *We can never forget that Adam’s fall in the Garden caused the curse of sin and death to fall upon all humanity (Jew, Gentile and the most wicked heathen). No one is exempt from the curse. It applies to all. Romans 5:12, "Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned...”. Now, here’s the good news. Romans 5:15, “But the free gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many".
The Application of this Law
Like every law, there are acts or principles that set the law into motion. For example; an apple falls from the tree and the law of gravity is set into motion. What happens is, the force of gravity goes into work and pulls the apple to the ground. Another example of how is law in put to work is in Newton’s first law of motion which states; ‘an object that is not moving, will not move until a net force acts upon it.’ Here, a force called momentum is required to set the object into motion.
The moment in time when the blood of Yeshua Messiah hit the mercy seat in the spirit realm, the law of the Spirit of Life was set into motion.
In the Greek Testament, the original word for “mercy-seat” in Hebrews 9:5 is hilasterion, which represents “that which makes expiation,” or “propitiation” (cf. ASV fn). It carries the idea of the removal of sin.
Hebrews 9:11-14, ‘But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; 12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. 13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies to the purifying of the flesh: 14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?’.
It was at that moment God’s unconditional forgiveness was shed abroad to all. It was at that moment all men were ‘made righteous’, again by the blood of Messiah. The privilege of being able to boldly access His power and enabling grace – is made possible because of Messiah’s blood. No work, prayer, repentance or any human endeavor put the law of the Spirit of Life into motion. It was the blood. “God commended His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:6).
-
Romans 5:19, ‘For as through the one man’s {Adam} disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One (Christ} the many will be made righteous’.
Romans 3:24-25, ‘“being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: whom God set forth to be a propitiation, through faith, in his blood, to show his righteousness because of the passing over of the sins done aforetime, in the forbearance of God.”
